A 14-year-old girl is safe today after her kidnapper was involved in a shootout with police Saturday night.  Will Ice killed himself after exchanging gunfire with police in Lonoke.

Ice, who police say was connected to a North Carolina child abduction case, shot at Lonoke police after being approached by police.  Two Lonoke officers approached Ice’s Dodge SUV parked at a McDonalds on Highway 31 in Lonoke.  Police approached the vehicle because it fit the description of one used to kidnap 14-year old Savanahh Childress

Once Ice got out of the vehicle, he began shooting at officers wounding one.  As one of the officers returned fire, Ice drove off with Childress.

An Arkansas State Trooper who was in the area pursued Ice on Highway 31.  When Ice’s SUV crashed into a snowbank, Childress was able to escape.  When the state trooper approached the vehicle, Ice was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  Ice died later at a Little Rock hospital.  Childress is on her way home after being checked out at a hospital.

Ice was wanted by police in North Carolina and Pennsylvania in other child predator cases.

The wounded Lonoke officer is recovering.
