Work is continuing on the new Saracen Casino and John L. Berrey, the outgoing chairman of the Quapaw Tribe and Downstream Development said Wednesday that the city and county are protected because legislation that established four casinos in the state is written into the constitution. Appearing on Talk Back Live with Floyd Donald, Berrey said

Berrey will step down from his positions Saturday after a 20-year run and talked about the Casino annex, adjacent to the main casino, which has been operating at 66 percent of capacity because of the COVID-19 pandemic and with that, was named the state’s best gaming site by the Arkansas Times.

A number of listeners called in during the program including Mayor Shirley Washington, who among other things said that Berrey could have chosen to put the casino anywhere in the state but chose Pine Bluff “and we are grateful for that.”
