A $100,000 bond was set Wednesday for a Pine Bluff man accused of battering his mother and two police officers who were attempting to arrest him.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Cedric Johnson, 49, with two counts of first-degree battery.

Reading from a probable cause affidavit from Detective Corey Wilfong, Deputy Prosecutor Beth Carson said officers were sent to a reported disturbance on South Oak Street Monday where the victim, Johnson’s mother, said she had walked to the door of her residence when Johnson grabbed her by the throat and neck and shoved her against the wall. She said she fell to the ground and said she was 66 years old.

She was taken to Jefferson Regional Hospital where she was diagnosed with a sprained left shoulder.

Carson said later than day, officers were sent back to the house for a reported disturbance between brothers.

Carson said Bunting and Smith were taken to the hospital where they were treated for their injuries.

She said Johnson has an extensive criminal history including convictions for second-degree battery, aggravated robbery and failure to register as a sex offender. He was ordered to haves no contact with the victims until the case is settled.
