The Drew County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a 10-year-old was struck by a vehicle Thursday morning while attempting to board a school bus.

According to the report, deputies were called to the Montongo area of Highway 425 North around 6:15 a.m. after a child was struck by a vehicle. When deputies arrived on the scene, they took the child to Drew Memorial Hospital.

The sheriff’s office said that the child was attempting to cross the highway to get on a school bus, and was reportedly struck by the vehicle’s side-view mirror.

The Sheriff’s Office has said that they have received information that the child sustained several broken bones and would has been taken to a hospital in Little Rock. The victim is expected to make a full recovery.

The sheriff’s office said there are conflicting statements from the drivers of both vehicles. Some reports from eyewitnesses state the school bus did not come to a complete stop as the child ran across the road.
