One person was killed and another person was injured in a two-vehicle crash Friday night in rural Jefferson County according to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police.

According to the report a Nissan was driving south in the northbound lane of US Highway 65 when it collided head on with a 2020 Chevy Tahoe at the intersection of US Highway 65 and Klie Road at 9:30 p.m. Friday night.

The Nissan immediately became engulfed in flames, killing the driver who has not been identified. 49-year-old Margert Thomas of Brookhaven, Mississippi was injured in the crash, and was transported for treatment.

It was raining and the roads were wet at the time of the crash according to the report.

To date 54 people have died in crashes on Arkansas highways in 2025.
