On October 5, 2024, just after 11:00 AM, Officers of the Pine Bluff Police Department responded to a reported shooting at 1120 E. 34th Ave. When officers arrived, they found a male with apparent gunshot wounds near 34th and Missouri.
Other officers responded to the reported shooting location at 1120 E. 34th. The shooting victim, identified as 29-year-old Otis Daniels, was transported from the scene to Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Sadly, he was later pronounced dead at JRMC at 11:58 AM.
The officers at 1120 E. 34th found the shooting scene near the front door of the residence. 44-year-old John Cater, the resident of 1120 E. 34th, was identified as the shooter and taken into custody at the scene without incident.
Witnesses and Carter stated that Daniels came to the residence. After some period of time, Daniels began hitting Carter in the face for unknown reasons. After being battered, Carter got up off of the porch, went into his residence and retrieved a revolver. Carter then exited the house and shot Daniels multiple times. Daniels then fled to where he was located by officers.
Carter was arrested and interviewed at the detective office. He was then transported to JRMC to be treated for injuries resulting from the battery. He will be transported to the Jefferson County Jail after release from JRMC and booked for Capital Murder.
